While shopping this weekend for the new casa, I couldn’t help but notice that there are quite a few very distinct and trendy furniture and design elements in the marketplace. Some are old trends still lingering on, and others seem to just be popping up as 2014 trends. Here’s a few that I’ve noticed over the past year or so.
Let me preface this by saying I am NOT an interior designer, did not get this list from one, and am guilty of having many in my own home.
Reclaimed Wood
So, so much reclaimed wood. AND. I. LOVE. IT. Not only is it enviro-friendly, it adds charm, texture, history and character to any space it lives. Along with reclaimed wood comes the trend of reclaimed windows and doors repurposed in a myriad of unique applications. It’s no surprise that we’re seeing more and more reclaimed-looking synthetic wood popping up making it easy for the everyday consumer to get the look.
The Edison Bulb
The exposed filament bulb is once again getting all sorts of attention as part of the industrial-chic trend. At just a few extra bucks a pop, they can turn a simple fixture into a statement piece.
Arabesque Tile
Now this is one Brandon and I thought we were actually ahead of, but are simply a victim to. Everyone from Home Depot to high-end tile showrooms are slinging the Moroccan/Spanish look. Good for us, that’s just what we needed for our next project!
The Metal Tub Chair
Yup, we have 8. This is one that might be trendy, but I think will be considered a classic piece for some time. The are versatile and can work with many styles from traditional to mid-century mod.
Linen
From dining chairs to headboards, linen is huge – and it’s no wonder. Linen goes great with everything and is the perfect textile to accessorize around. We love our linen and nailhead headboard from Pottery Barn.
Personalized Wall Art
Wedding dates, baby weights, and cityscapes OH MY. You can find a plethora of these handmade goodies by people far more clever than I on Etsy. I love the idea of having something in your home that holds meaning versus a mass-produced painting. It’s just all about moderation with these pieces.
Graphic Patterns
We saw Chevron hit the streets hard in 2012 and it seems to still be hanging on. Other geo shapes, herringbone and houndstooth are all making appearances on rugs, pillows, wallpaper and just about anywhere you can put a pattern.

Loving the graphic patterns trend! Easy way to add a splash of color and edge, even if its only with a throw pillow!!
